Investigators found a canister of laughing gas in the wreckage of a car that slammed into a tree, killing two Orange County sisters.
The two teen mothers from Santa Ana died Sunday morning in the Garden Grove crash. A 17-year-old cousin also in the car was hospitalized with major injuries.
The young women were returning from a party.
Police found a half tank of nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, on the floor of the front passenger's side of the vehicle. The gas is popular at rave parties to induce a brief high.
An autopsy showed 19-year-old Blanca Lopez and 18-year-old Carol Lopez died of severe trauma. The coroner requested special tests for nitrous oxide in addition to the usual toxicology tests.
