Steer makes break for it; escapes through open gate of Ohio slaughterhouse

CINCINNATI - Looks like a super-sized desperado is on the loose in the Cincinnati area.

The escapee - an Angus steer weighing more than 450 kilograms - had a date with the slaughterhouse but escaped from its holding pen by bolting through a gate that was inadvertently left open.

Police say the animal was last seen heading into the woods of suburban Cincinnati.

Searchers are on the ground and also in the air, in a sheriff's department helicopter.

One of the owners of the meatpacking business says the bovine is likely scared and should be approached with caution.

It's not the first time a steer has been on the loose in the Cincinnati area.

In September 2006, a steer named Little Red ran away from a fair and eluded capture for three days.
